Barkside of the Park: Where Dogs Can Roam in Yellowstone
🐾 Yellowstone park has strict pet rules to protect both wildlife and your furry friend.
Here’s what you need to know—and where you can go with your pup:
🚫 Where Dogs Aren’t Allowed
- No trails, boardwalks, or backcountry access
- No thermal areas (too dangerous!)
- No being left unattended—not even in cars or tied up
- No more than 100 feet from roads, parking lots, or campgrounds
✅ Where You Can Go with Your Dog
- Scenic pullouts & overlooks: Great for short walks and photo ops. Try:
- Kepler Cascades (near Old Faithful)
- North Rim Drive viewpoints like Lookout Point and Inspiration Point
- Campgrounds: Dogs are allowed in all Yellowstone National Park Lodges campgrounds, as long as they’re leashed and supervised
- Designated pet-friendly cabins: Available at places like Old Faithful Lodge, Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, and Lake Lodge
- Old Faithful viewing area: There’s a dog-friendly zone about 200 feet away where you can still catch the eruption
