Paws on the Pavement: Exploring Yellowstone with your pup

Barkside of the Park: Where Dogs Can Roam in Yellowstone

🐾 Yellowstone park has strict pet rules to protect both wildlife and your furry friend.

Here’s what you need to know—and where you can go with your pup:

🚫 Where Dogs Aren’t Allowed

  • No trails, boardwalks, or backcountry access
  • No thermal areas (too dangerous!)
  • No being left unattended—not even in cars or tied up
  • No more than 100 feet from roads, parking lots, or campgrounds

✅ Where You Can Go with Your Dog

  • Scenic pullouts & overlooks: Great for short walks and photo ops. Try:
    • Kepler Cascades (near Old Faithful)
    • North Rim Drive viewpoints like Lookout Point and Inspiration Point
  • Campgrounds: Dogs are allowed in all Yellowstone National Park Lodges campgrounds, as long as they’re leashed and supervised
  • Designated pet-friendly cabins: Available at places like Old Faithful Lodge, Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, and Lake Lodge
  • Old Faithful viewing area: There’s a dog-friendly zone about 200 feet away where you can still catch the eruption
